Every eight seconds, more and more babies are being born all over the world. Every minute, more and more parents are thinking of ways to make their children the best among the rest. These parents are more likely to explore the whole world just to be able to give everything to their kids to make them grow smarter and wiser. They believe that educational toys are absolutely their partners in raising smarter babies. Hence, most, if not all, these parents will look for every educational toy they can grab in the market today.

But what makes an educational toy different from an ordinary toy? Essentially, these toys, just like other toys, are simply invented for and to be used by children. Any person can argue that an educational toy is in fact any toy. The only difference they have is how the children perceive these toys or the reality of their significance.

Ideally, an educational toy, which is believe to be our partners in raising smarter babies advances intellectuality and imagination, and promotes the emotional, physical, and social development of children. These toys pave ways to faster learning of children with new skills. Therefore, what really makes this toy different from other usual toys is the child’s learning and development associated with playing with them.

Simple wooden blocks are actually a good start for preschool children to instigate learning the elementary principles of science and causal relationships, as well as patience and basic hand-eye coordination. Elementary children can be encouraged to play with interlocking manipulative toys like Legos or puzzles to further improve their mind-body coordination, virtue of patience, and appreciation of spatial relationships.

All educators hold the same opinion that is, the most effective, most natural, and the best method of educating children is through play. Among the most important elements in teaching children are educational toys, developmental games, and learning materials. But there are really no rules in deciding the right choice of toys and games for your children. You can try experimenting from simple books and educational toys moving gradually to more intricate educational games, science activities, and puzzles.

If there is actually a rule, it can only be one that is, to go after your child’s interests. You can tag along your kid’s interests be it play dough clays or electronic keyboard or pirate games as you will never go wrong with these. For sure, they will inspire your children’s imagination, senses, and cleverness. Let them express themselves either through academic subjects (i.e., music, art, history, language) or sports (i.e., ball games, skating, ballet).

There are indeed so many ways to raise our children to be smarter and wiser people. We have all kinds of educational toys available in the market. We just have to know well what are outside there and learn how to listen and support our children’s interests. We can give them heaps of educational toys but if the child has no interest, then it cannot serve its function to educate the child.

Make sure you will introduce your children to variety of educational toys and when they already choose one or two, you just have to guide them along the way. Remember, these educational toys are just our partners in raising smarter babies but they are not the sole key to success. As the saying goes, Nine tenths of education is Encouragement. Parents as well as educators just have to make these children realize that learning is not so boring after all, but rather a fun development of themselves.

Parents are now provided with a broader set of choices in selecting toys for their children. A major innovation has long been recognized and is currently presenting a better option for kids to further their mental growth and development. While several toy companies are emerging, educational toys are also gaining wide acceptance and are facing a significant demand in the market.

Growing children require proper guidance and special attention, considering the fact that they are at a stage where their brains are recognizing concepts that are new to them. And given their high curiosity, toys are an effective way to feed their hungry minds with basic information. Parents can passively help their children improve their understanding of the world around them. However, parents should be selective in choosing such for their children. Even though they have opted for those which are highly educational, they should look to find those that meet the needs of their children and will give the kind of care that they want their kids to have.

1) Find those that are appropriate to his or her age. Certain toys are specifically made for a certain age group. When kids toys are being used by children beyond the age range being specified, they become useless since these children would find it hard to use and relate to them. This is because they have not reached the level of understanding that is necessary for them to appreciate the subject matter being tackled or addressed. The opposite goes for children who deal with toys that are too young for them. They usually find them boring and unchallenging. In addition, they would not really cater to the intellectual needs of your child. Do not assume that by providing your child with those that are advanced for him or her will also advance her skills. Manufacturers also take into account safety considerations relating to age that is why they are also mandated by law to specify age bracket of target users. Those for younger children do not use small pieces to avoid having them swallowed.

2) Target specific skills. Certain toddler educational toys are made to target a specific behavior or skill in children. These skills may pertain to cognitive, logical and even artistic talent, to name a few. For infants, those that can stimulate their vision and audio skills should be considered. With toddlers, on the other hand, they have a wider range of choices since they have already developed basic skills such as attention, symbolic thinking and memory. But if you are honing your child to become someone or acquire a certain personality like being musically-inclined, you must expose him or her to music-related materials such as musical books, musical instruments for children and other musical toys. You can also opt to frequently play nursery rhymes and children’s songs on your music box or disc player. To enhance logical thinking, they can be exposed to puzzles or related games that are also suitable for their age. You can also further develop your child’s literary skills by reading them stories. There are educational videos that are produced and marketed everywhere. They are typically presented in various lessons that are aimed to target specific abilities.

3) Safety first. This is a basic rule for anything that you wish to do. And selecting toys for your kid should not be an exemption. Childrens educational toys may also pose danger if their composition or production does not meet safety standards. These should not contain toxic materials, such as lead content, that might go into the way of your child’s health. Parents should give extra attention to this as youngsters are more sensitive and prone to issues that may endanger their own health. Even though the government is strictly prohibiting the use of harmful materials in these articles, parent should still be extra cautious by taking particular attention on what they are buying. You should read the outer cover or the toy box which should say “non-toxic”. You must also read manuals or precautionary measures that come with the product to determine proper use. The same attention should be given on things that should be avoided. To ensure that you buy baby toys that are indeed friendly to your child’s health, look for certification on certain brands and products.

Toddler biting is a fairly common toddler behaviour which always arouses embarrassment in the parent of the biter and indignation in the parent of the child on the receiving end.

When a toddler bites, he is telling you in the only way he knows, that something is bothering him. It may be that he’s overexcited or tired, bored or frustrated, confused or hungry. toddler biting

Biting is not a sign that your child is a bully, a bad child, or poorly parented. Rather, it is your child’s way of communicating.

Biting is among the most agonizing and embarrassing of toddler behaviour, is usually fairly short lived and pretty typical of pre-verbal behaviour.

The most common reason toddlers bite is because of their inability to handle frustration.

Unfortunately, many parents whose toddlers don’t bite, frequently make judgments around this form of toddler behaviour, with the parents and biting child often being isolated from social situations and playgroups.

If biting becomes a problem among your group of toddlers and parents, do try to ‘get it out there’ by addressing it as a problem behaviour and deciding on the joint action you will take together. It is certainly helpful to both the biter and his parents, if everyone is on the same page. This will stop the behaviour more quickly.

Toddler Biting

* Get down to his level, eye-to-eye

* State a very firm “NO! That’s biting. We do not bite people!”

* Remove him immediately

* Be firm, clear and consistent in repetition.

* Don’t waste time lecturing your toddlers.

* Action is best.

* Decide on the consequence your child will face for biting.

This could be placing him in timeout or leaving the playground or playgroup immediately. Whatever you decide it is important to be clear, firm and consistent in using this same consequence each time he bites.

* Immediately name the behaviour so your toddler understands the term for it. Tell him “that’s biting! We do not bite people!”

* Focus your attention on the child who is bitten. Do this in front of your child so he learns firstly that his action earns less attention than the child who is bitten, and secondly mirror to your child concern and sympathy to the hurt child.

* Help your child to apologize to the child he has bitten. If the biting has arisen over possession of a toy, or jostling in the playground, help your child to make amends by giving the toy to the other child, or by relinquishing his position.

* Apologize to the child’s parents then remove your child from the situation and immediately apply the consequence.

* By being vigilant in your attention, you can usually determine what your child needs to communicate.

* Teach him the words to replace biting.
Speak clearly with your child about his biting and teach your child ways to communicate to replace the biting. “I feel cross, angry, upset…” “It’s my turn”…. “It’s mine.”

It’s very important to be consistent in your approach so that your toddler does not get into a habit of biting.

Never bite your child back This only teaches him that although children mustn’t bite, adults can. It is also helpful to cease playing biting games with him, such as pretending to bite his toes etc, while he is learning that biting is not right behaviour.

Toddlers need to witness their parents’ healthy expressions of anger and then watch skillful conflict resolution.

This is the way they learn how to do this for themselves.

Aim to play fair in front of them.

They are constantly observing your reactions.

There are various benefits to toddler computer games: language and coordination development, to name but two.

However, it is important to take into account certain things when playing online games with young children, in order to make it a positive and fun learning experience.

Time Limits

It is imperative to restrict the time that your child spends on the computer. Why is this? Ask yourself: do you want him to become reliant on technology to concentrate and enjoy himself?

Endless hours in front of a computer monitor will rob a child of the self-reliance needed to develop into a rounded human being.

In addition to this, limited time on the computer stops young children from taking such an expensive piece of equipment for granted. It is a good idea for online games and so on to be a reward or called Special Time. A maximum of 30 minutes is the absolute longest that a young child should be allowed to be online for.

Repetition

You will probably get bored because your toddler wants to play the same games again and again. Be prepared for this. It is actually necessary for children of this age to repeat words and actions in order to remember them. Be patient!

Direct Supervision

An obvious point, but worth stating anyway. You need to take an active part in playing the game with your toddler. Aside from the obvious safety issues, your child will need your help to use the keypad and/or mouse.

Not All Websites Are Created Equal

There are some excellent games for under children under the age of three on the Internet, but unfortunately they can be hard to find. If you Google online toddler games you will find far too many websites that are aimed at preschoolers and require greater manual dexterity and counting skills than toddlers have.

You definitely need to try a game out before playing it with your child, or frustration and tears will be the order of the day.

Music Education For Children

Studies have shown that music and music training provide a wealth of educational benefits to children. Early exposure to music has been proven to help develop areas of the brain responsible for language and reasoning skills. Music education also increases the spatial and temporal reasoning necessary for advanced mathematics. Children who study music typically score better on standardized testing as well.

Music education not only provides children with a terrific healthy outlet for self-expression, it enhances creativity and boosts self-esteem. There are a number of ways for parents to help their child receive quality education in music, starting as young as birth. The most important thing is to expose your child to a variety of music, including several different genres, not just classical or kid’s music.

Sing songs to your infant each day. Fun, repetitive songs with movements or motions are best and as your child gets older, you can encourage her to join in. By the toddler years, your little one can dance along with music. Continue to sing simple silly songs with your toddler and dance together to a variety of songs, both upbeat and slow. Toys, like the Baby Einstein Learning Sounds Piano, will allow your toddler to create her own beats and songs.

Preschool age children can begin to differentiate between tones and pitches. Play games to pick which note is higher and which is lower. Introduce your preschooler to the specific sounds made by various instruments as well. Continue to listen to many different types of music with your preschooler and discuss how various pieces make you and our child feel.

Make musical instruments with your preschooler and play them together. Shakers are easy to make out of ordinary household items. Attach two paper plates together with a hole puncher and yarn or cover the ends of a toilet paper tube with construction paper and fill either with dry beans or rice. A coffee can and lid can be used as a drum. Have fun and use your imagination to create your own family band.

You may want to start formal music education with music lessons at this age. Discuss how various instruments are played and allow your child to choose the one he would like to learn. Visit a symphony or orchestra performance to investigate the various instruments. Piano lessons are typically best for this age because your child will learn to read and play music without having to remember difficult fingering techniques.

Continue your child’s music education as she enters elementary school. As your child gets older, she may begin to prefer a certain genre of music, but keep exposing her to a variety of music. Allow her to start learning an instrument by this age and make practice a part of her daily routine. Provide your child with encouragement and support in her musical endeavors.

By the middle school and high school years, encourage your child to be a part of a band, symphony, or orchestra. Playing music as a group provides even more developmental benefits than playing alone and a teenager’s involvement in a quality music program is important for self-development.

Music, even without the educational benefits research has proven, is a fun and relaxing pastime. Start at a very young age to instill the love of music in your child and continue throughout her childhood to provide an excellent musical education that will drive her future success.

Today there is such a wonderful variety of education toys from which to choose for toddlers. The great thing about this is that so many of these toys will not only provide fun for your young one they will also offer creative thinking. For example, one great education toy is a puzzle. The learning comes in several ways: the toddler must solve the puzzle. Aside from this a puzzle offers a variety of shapes and sizes. Too, there are all kinds of colors. A puzzle can be used from an early age for the toddler to play with. As the child grows you can then work with her/him with each developing step in the learning process.

DVD’s are great for the young ones. It is important to understand that your toddler may not understand the basic premise behind a DVD, such as the letters of the alphabet, but s/he is learning to listen to sounds. The baby will also see the colors on the DVD, distinguish among different voices, and, just like with puzzles the toddler will learn the bigger message as s/he grows older.

Another great education toy is in all the different varieties of blocks for sale. In this case you do not want to make a purchase when the child is too young; otherwise, the first thing s/he will want to do is put the block in his/her mouth. A block teaches a number of skills including dexterity, eye-hand coordination, logical thinking, and some great fun.

If you think your child is too young then wait awhile, but, no matter what, a book is a great education toy. Not only can a book give you some quality time when your child wants you to read it, over and over, a book introduces your toddler to the life-long world of words. A book has been and always will be a treasure.

For most 5 year olds this is the age when formal education begins. Many start learning in a classroom environment for the first, which can be scary for many children. Up until this point many children have spent most of their time with their parents and not a complete stranger for the day. This is a major step in a young child’s life and it is also time for them to take the education and learning to the next level.

Whether it is the classroom or at home there are many educational toys for 5 year olds to have fun with and also become educated while using them. Providing young minds with the proper resources and educational toys will do wonders. Since reading is one of the most important aspects of education, it is very important to educate kids on grammar, pronunciation, and spelling. A magnetic poetry word kit would be essential in any classroom or home. This enabled kids to put sentences together in a fun way by introducing them to sequencing, letter recognition, alphabet order, and logical thinking.

Learning a foreign language as we become older becomes more difficult but as young kids we are easily influenced and can absorb more information. So learning a foreign language the same way young children learn the English language can be a fantastic way to broaden their minds even further. By using the same magnetic poetry techniques a child may learn a second language which will be beneficial to them later in life.

Those interested in science my want to introduce their 5 year old to a science kit with very basic activities. It is always more fun by doing rather then listening or hearing science experiments. While they are very simple in principle building blocks are very important when it comes to educating young minds. They take many aspects of learning such as analytical skills, spatial design, and artistic abilities, combine them and help children create something they can be proud of. As children get older the building blocks can increasingly become more complicated and detailed.

Another type of creative toy combines building and art called fractiles. They are magnetic diamond shaped toys that will allow for creating many types of shapes. The shapes can be arranged to complicated detailed shapes to very simple shapes, it all depends on where your imagination takes you. With the nearly unlimited patterns you can make it is great way to enhance a child’s recognition skills.

There are so many online game sites out there that are supposed to be good sites for toddlers to play games on. However, some of them are not easy to navigate and not all of them are free. I have found quite a few different online sites that allow my 3 year old toddler to stay occupied for hours – games that are both educational and fun.

Most of these game sites require that your child knows how to use a mouse. Your child doesn’t necessarily need to master the skill of using a mouse because many of the games that are available to him or her will spark an interest – creating a desire to learn how to use a mouse.

Included in the list of game sites are popular characters like Elmo, Mickey Mouse, Thomas the Engine, and much more. There are not only games that your children can interact with, but also movies they can watch, music they can listen to, activities they can print out, and much more.

Some of the educational materials that your child can learn via these free sites are:
Learn their ABC’s
Learn how to count
Learn how to spell
Learn how to match
Learn how to recognize colors
Learn Spanish

That is only a few of the things that your child can learn via free online toddler sites. Basic skills that all parents want their child to know are easy to learn with these various sites. So, sit down with your toddler, introduce him or her to the sites, and then watch him have fun learning something new!
